GENERAL INFORMATION
What is disc golf?

What is disc golf?
Disc golf is a sport similar to traditional golf, but players throw specialized flying discs towards metal baskets instead of using clubs and balls to hit into holes.
The objective is to complete a course of 9 or 18 baskets in the fewest throws possible, following rules for fairways, obstacles, and putting. It's low-cost, accessible, and played in parks worldwide.
What is Adaptive Disc Golf?

What is Adaptive Disc Golf?
Adaptive disc golf modifies the game to make it inclusive for people with disabilities, such as using wheelchair-mounted launchers, disc-locator devices, hoop-based targets for those with limited mobility (e.g., quadriplegics), or adjusted rules for visual impairments. The Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) introduced official adaptive rules in 2023 to standardize accessibility, ensuring "no one is left behind."
The Vets Disc Golf Club of Central Ohio hosted the first every officially sanctioned PDGA Adaptive Disc Golf Tournament - May 30th, 2025 in Whitehall, Ohio.

What is the Vets Disc Golf Club?
The Vets Disc Golf Club (Vets DGC) is a national organization primarily for veterans and their families, aimed at promoting disc golf to support mental health awareness and camaraderie. It welcomes supporters of its mission, with chapters across the U.S. and internationally, focusing on connecting veterans through the sport to improve well-being.
When & Why Was Vets Disc Golf Club Formed?

When & Why Was Vets Disc Golf Club Formed?
Founded in mid-2019 by Jordan Eubanks of Hampton Roads, VA, Vets DGC emerged in response to the alarming statistic that 22 veterans die by suicide every day in the United States. Eubanks, a U.S. Navy veteran and disc golf enthusiast, started the group to grow the sport within the veteran community, reduce isolation, and address mental health challenges. Since its inception, the club has expanded rapidly, fostering local chapters across the country and donating thousands of discs to veterans and military bases.
In mid-2020, Justin Cook launched the Vets Disc Golf Club of Central Ohio chapter (VDGC). As president, Cook quickly recognized the opportunity and need for adaptive disc golf, ensuring disabled veterans could participate and enjoy the sport on equal footing.
Reaching out to the Veterans Affairs (VA) for support, Cook connected with Patrick Gray, a VA Recreational Therapist and professional disc golfer. Together, they integrated disc golf into the VA’s recreational therapy programs, making it accessible to more veterans as a tool for physical and mental well-being.
